Swatch Sagar – Suraksha Sagar Abhiyan – 2025

Andhra Pradesh, with its 12 coastal districts, is blessed with a long corridor of ports, harbours, and sandy beaches. The people of these regions primarily depend on fishing, aquaculture, mollusc, and shrimp production for their livelihood. While “Coastal Andhra” usually refers to the districts along the Bay of Bengal, the Uttarandhra region is also considered distinct due to its unique cultural and historical background.

The samithis affiliated with Vidya Bharati Andhra Pradesh are running general schools and Ekal Vidyalayas across nearly all these coastal districts. As part of its social responsibility, Vidya Bharati A.P. successfully organized the Swatch Sagar – Suraksha Sagar Abhiyan on 20th September 2025.

The initiative involved students, teachers, management members, and large participation from local communities. The campaign included:

  • Beach cleaning drives to clear garbage along the coastline.
  • Awareness rallies and programmes to inspire lifestyle and behavioural changes in coastal villages.
  • Educational efforts to promote environmental sustainability, clean coasts, and pollution-free seas to protect marine life.

Earlier, it was observed that industrial units near the coast discharged untreated effluents, leading to marine pollution and a decline in fish catch. This campaign sought to address such challenges by sensitizing communities and promoting proactive action.

The Swatch Sagar Abhiyan was conducted across 98 villages, and an impressive 68 quintals of garbage were cleared from the seashores.

This collective effort by Vidya Bharati A.P. stands as a significant step toward environmental conservation, marine protection, and community empowerment along the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh.
